The Law Library has briefs and records for some (but not all) cases decided by the South Carolina Supreme Court and the South Carolina Court of Appeals from 1858 to 2014. These briefs and records are available in print (not online). They are located in bound volumes in the S.C. Briefs & Records section of the Law Library's basement. In order to save our patrons unnecessary trips to the basement, we offer this searchable database.
Enter the information you know about the briefs and records you seek, and press SUBMIT below.
- If you are entering information in a Vol # field below, use exactly 3 digits. For example, if you know the volume number is 21, enter 021.
- If the full citation information for the case appears after you press SUBMIT, you can take the South Eastern Reports citation number with you to the basement to locate the briefs and records associated with that case.
- If no relevant citation information appears after you press SUBMIT, the law library unfortunately does not hold the briefs and records you seek.
Use the citation information in the South East Reports # column of your search results to locate specific briefs and records in the Law Library's basement.
We do not hold the briefs and records for all South Carolina cases. If we do not have the briefs and records you seek, try the South Carolina Supreme Court Library or the South Carolina Court of Appeals Library, because their collections of briefs and records are more complete than ours. The South Carolina Judicial Department also provides access to documents filed with the South Carolina Supreme Court and the South Carolina Court of Appeals, for cases after May 1, 2012, through use of the South Carolina Appellate Court Public Index.
